Cotmanhay Neighbourhood Element

Safer Stronger Communities Fund (SSCF): Neighbourhood Element

Neighbourhood Element aims to improve the basic conditions that effect people’s quality of life which is set out in the Local Area Agreement (LAA) SSCF guidance document.

People living in areas that receive Neighbourhood Elements normally experience poorer public service than those living in other areas.  They are more likely to:

  • Die young
  • Be victims of crime
  • Live in poor quality housing
  • Unsafe, run down, neglected streets, parks, other public spaces and amenities.
The National Outcome which is also a mandatory outcome for Cotmanhay Neighbourhood Management Group (CNMG) is:

“To improve the quality of life for people in the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods and ensure service providers are more responsive to the neighbourhood needs and improve delivery”.

The neighbourhood is seen as the critical level at which local people can engage and deliver change.  There is a genuine desire from CNMG and Erewash Borough Council (EBC) to assist in the development of a more responsive and customer focussed public services with more opportunities for the community to influence and improve the delivery of public services.

Enthusiastically, the government would like to extend neighbourhood management which is appropriate to local circumstances; flexible and responsive to the needs and diversity of the community and associated organisations.

There are a number of building blocks that the government recognises as critical to the stabilisation of deprived neighbourhoods.  These are as follows:

  • Improve liveability
  • Tackle poor public service
  • Transform neighbourhoods
  • Empower local people
  • Partnership working
