Projects 2006 - 2007
Since June 2006, we have granted almost £300,000 of funds to over 30 projects in the area. Every project approved had to pass a stringent examination from our board to ensure that they would provide a benefit to the people of Cotmanhay.
The following projects were funded during the years 2006 -2007
Community Centre / Beauvale Drive Regeneration - £12,000
Erewash Borough Council (EBC) submitted this project. The aim was to employ the British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) to work with local residents and CNMG partners to develop a plan for the future regeneration of the community centre and Donner Crescent areas.
As part of the consultation, we held a family fun day at the Enterprise Centre and the Pavilion to find out exactly what people would like to see on those sites. The consultation formed an important part of the final report prepared by BURA which EBC will present to the Council when they meet to discuss future plans for the Community Centre and Donner Crescent.
Cotmanhay School Library - £6,500
For some time, staff at Cotmanhay Infants School have wanted to renovate their school library to make it a more pleasant environment for both staff and pupils to further develop their reading skills and promote reading for pleasure to both children and parents.
After successfully applying for funding, the school was able to create an entirely new library, stock it with a great range of books and provide teaching assistant time to staff the library, work with parents and provide books that help to build children’s phonic skills.
Cotmanhay Schools Breakfast Club - £4,413
Funding from CNMG has allowed the already successful Breakfast Club at Cotmanhay Schools to expand the number of places it is able to offer and continue its valuable work.
Since its set up in 2001 the club has helped increase attendance and punctuality at the school whilst staff at both the infant and junior schools have noticed a marked improvement in the levels of alertness amongst those attending.
Thanks to this new funding, the club has a membership of 200 + pupils with more than 80 children attending daily.
Physical Activity & Nutrition for Young People and their Families at Risk of Obesity - £1,800
Erewash has the highest level of obese children in Derbyshire. Derbyshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) estimates that almost 35% of children in the borough are overweight.
This project, delivered by Derbyshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) at a cost of £1,800, was a pilot scheme to promote healthy eating and physical activity amongst children and their families identified as being, or at risk of becoming, overweight. The initial project took place over seven weeks at Cotmanhay School with 21 pupils and their parents / carers all taking part.
The project was a great success has been very well received and has now secured full time funding from the PCT.
Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s) – £25,000 per year over 2 years
In an effort to help reduce crime and fear of crime in Cotmanhay, and to provide a visible police presence, we agreed to fund the employment of a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO). This bid was enhanced by a “buy one get one free” offer from Derbyshire Constabulary which meant Cotmanhay has two additional designated full time PCSO’s who you may have met or seen on their rounds in the area. Derbyshire Constabulary have also agreed to continue funding these post’s beyond the initial two year period.
Cotmanhay Cobras - £3,920
Cotmanhay Cobras is a youth football team open to all young people in Cotmanhay between the ages of 7 and 11.
It was set up by a local resident who wanted to provide something for the young people to do that would be healthy and help to develop friendships and responsibility.
CNMG has supported the cobras with a fund totalling £3920 over the past year. This has included £970 start up to purchase equipment. An additional bid of £1500 was submitted to buy a waterproof coat and training kit for each child ensuring everyone had the same standard of kit.
