Cotmanhay Neighbourhood Management Awards Evening
21st November 2009

This Gala Celebration, hosted by Derbyshire Fire & Rescue and Cotmanhay Neighbourhood Management Group was held at the Arena Ilkeston.

The evening brought together actively involved residents and service partners to celebrate the successes of partnership working during the Safer Stronger Communities funded Neighbourhood Management Programme.
The Awards Ceremony, whilst saying thank you to all who took part in the programme, highlighted the best bits.

The award for the Best 3rd Sector Organisation went to Community Concern Erewash for their on going delivery of really meaningfull projects for the whole community, such as the Luncheon Club, Home Comforts Team, Bright St Laundry and the Cotmanhay Women's Group

Youth Leadership Award went to Luke Trussell, who as well as being a Missing Gem has been volunteering as part of the CNMG staff team, designing marketing materials, youth engagement activities and general office duties. Luke is also a member of ACTION4COTMANHAY being the trustee for marketing.

The Best Project was awarded to The Junior Rangers - a project devised by Andy Savage, the Neighbourhood Warden.  It is a partnership between Pride in Erewash, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, Derbyshire Constabulary, Three Valleys Housing, Cotmanhay Junior School and Quackers Community Farm and has given 58 young people an insight into their community whilst building a strong community team of service providers.  This exciting project is now being mainstreamed by Cotmanhay Junior School

Special Achievement Award was given to Kevin Widdowson ,for bringing funds and projects into the area over 3 years and actively encouraging young people to get involved and impacting on their community

Community Champion Award went to Linda Comrie, for her outstanding, consistent and unwavering dedication to Cotmanhay.  Linda runs, among other things, the Cobras Fun Club and Cooking on a Budget

Another highlight of the evening was the launch of the Residents Group ACTION4COTMANHAY.  This group will continue much of the work in the future and part of this launch was the Home fire safety project handing over by the Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive of Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, Brian Tregunna, to the Residents Group.  Councillor Brian Lucas also handed the group a cheque for £1000 to start them on their way.
The funding for the Cotmanhay Neighbourhood Management Group comes to an end in March 2010. However the residents and service providers will be taking much of the work forward via ACTION4COTMANHAY.  If anyone living in Ilkeston North and Cotmanhay would like to find out how they can influence what happens in their community and/or would like to get involved please call 0115 9442073 or email action4cotmanhay@yahoo.uk.
